FINDING THE FIRST FEMALE F1 WORLD CHAMPION

ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE IN MOTORSPORT WITH THE RIGHT FOCUS, SUPPORT, INVESTMENT, AND VISIBILITY

WE'RE NOT TRYING TO MAKE IT EASIER FOR WOMEN, WE JUST WANT IT TO BE EQUALLY DIFFICULT.

More than Equal is a global independent motorsport initiative with a mission to find and develop the first female Formula 1 world champion. It seeks to close the performance gap for girls and women in motorsport through commissioning and publishing pioneering research, identifying top female racing talent globally with a data-led approach, as well as introducing a world-class, high-performance female driver development programme.

AN EXPERT COLLECTIVE IN SPORT AND BUSINESS.

Founded by thirteen-time Grand Prix winner David Coulthard and entrepreneur-philanthropist Karel Komarek, More than Equal brings together a strong and dedicated team with extensive experience in sport and business, including senior leaders from Formula 1, Sport England, International Olympic Committee, Red Bull, Nike, 10 Downing Street, British Cycling and more.

Inside Track: Exploring the Gender Gap in Motorsport

This report is the combined result of the most comprehensive research ever undertaken into women’s participation in motorsport. It shows that there exists a great opportunity for the sport to capitalise on a clear call from its fanbase to improve opportunities for women and girls and to do much more to attract and retain female drivers. What are the specific barriers that mean a woman hasn't competed in F1 for over 40 years? Read the entire report, available to download now.

THE STATE OF PLAY

What's stopping women from racing at the highest level of motorsport? There is no single, insurmountable barrier stopping this from happening, but rather there are a multitude of factors at play. Our research makes clear that these are far and wide-ranging, including far too few women and girls participating and a lack of female role models within the sport, lack of dedicated training and development, difficulty accessing funding, inferior track time and outdated perceptions and stereotypes within motorsport.

Our goal is to help identify, remove or mitigate those barriers, so talented female drivers have an equal opportunity to succeed.

OUR FOCUS

We are not a racing series, team, or competition. We are fully independent and focused on research, data, talent identification, and driver development. Our goal is to offer high potential female drivers the opportunity to maximise their potential in a way that has never been done before.

THE FUTURE BUILDS ON THE FOUNDATION OF THE PAST

772 DRIVERS, 5 WOMEN

Across 1000+ FIA World Championship races since 1950 British Grand Prix, only five female drivers have competed in qualifying in a Formula 1 Grand Prix. Only two have made it to race day. Maria Teresa de Filippis finished 10th in the 1958 Belgian Grand Prix and 17 years later, Lella Lombardi took home points in the 1975 Spanish Grand Prix.

NO WOMAN HAS RACED IN F1 IN NEARLY 50 YEARS.

We are committed to changing this over the next decade. From fighter pilots to astronauts, significant strides have been made to champion gender equality in traditionally male-dominated spaces. Women's sport sits higher on the cultural agenda than it ever has. The quest is on to rewrite the unwritten rules in motorsport.
