Welcome to SMK’s Changemakers’ Toolkit, your go-to training resource for campaigners, activists, and changemakers of all kinds.

This Toolkit is based on SMK’s Campaign Carousel training: a product of our innovative social change analysis and years of collaborating with changemakers like you.

Our tools and approaches support changemakers to understand, map, and plan to create impactful change- and we’re thrilled to be sharing it with you.

We believe that anyone can be a force for change.

Whether you are part of an organisation, a local group, or on a solo mission.

Whether you’re just getting started with your first campaign, or checking in for a refresher: we want to make sure you have the support you need to go out and make a difference.

Making change can be difficult, and it can be hard to find the right guidance to help you on your way. Changemakers’ Toolkit is designed to be that guidance that any changemaker can work from.

Think of this as a digital toolbox, equipped with everything you need to start making change happen.

Each module is designed to take you through our tools, approaches, and insights on making change- complete with homework exercises and real-life examples.

These resources will not only deepen your understanding of campaigning and change-making, but also equip you with the skills to reflect and plan your next steps.

Thanks to the Wikimedia Foundation UK, we have been able to take these tools and create free online resources that can be accessed by anyone, anywhere, anytime.

We know it’s going to be a big year for changemakers, and we’re here to help.

It’s never been more important to support people like you who are working to make social change happen.

We hope that this toolkit can help you in your journey to create powerful campaigns for change.

Happy reading and good luck!

Here are some frequently asked questions

What’s a campaign?

A ‘campaign’ is activity undertaken to change something – or to stop something from changing. The key thing about a campaign is that it needs to be time-limited and winnable – to have a clear goal to work towards and to know when it has been secured.

How do I know if I’m a campaigner?

A ‘campaigner’ is anyone pursuing change. It could be something big and society-wide – like action on climate. Or something smaller and more personal – like trying to secure the support a child needs at school. You might also be called an activist or a changemaker.

If you’re working to change things, you’re a campaigner!

How much does this all cost?

Nothing at all! All this training material is completely free to you.
