About this event

We need your support to make change.

The Additional Support Needs (ASN) Learning Network has been operating since October 2021. It grew from ideas emerging from The Usual Place of Dumfries and BANG in the Scottish Borders. It has been funded by South of Scotland Enterprise (SOSE) and facilitated by Inspiring Scotland. The pilot ends in October this year.

The Network has been helping to share best practice and innovation in the South of Scotland region in transition and employability policy for young people and adults with additional support needs. As well as enabling organisations to meet and learn through peer to peer organisation support.

It has gathered evidence to identify where gaps are in service provision and provide insight on the experience of accessing employment, and work to influence the redesign of employment support.

As it comes to an end we need your help to secure its legacy. We want to make sure the learning from the Network members is used to support the vision of the regional economic strategy and maximise economic investment into the South of Scotland making it an inclusive region for all.

We’d love you to participate in an online event on the 8th of September 2023 between 10am and 2.30pm.

We welcome anyone with an interest in additional support needs and employment in the South of Scotland to attend. Perhaps you are a staff member or volunteer in the charity or public sector, or a private sector employer operating in the region. You could be someone in the region with an additional support need, or the parent or carer of someone with an ASN. The key is that you want support in positive change in the South of Scotland for this group of people.

Organised by

The network will:

  • help to share best practice and innovation in the South of Scotland region in transition and employability policy for young people and adults
  • enable organisations to meet and learn through peer to peer organisation support
  • help to identify where gaps are in service provision
  • provide insight and lived experience in accessing transition and employment, and work to influence the redesign of employment support
  • act as a credible reference group for statutory sector partners
  • help to inform the regional economic strategy and therefore maximise economic investment into South of Scotland through funding.
  • The decision was made to focus the network on employment as a policy area - this was because both initiating organisations have clear expertise in this area, and it is a priority policy for SOSE in terms of economic recovery.

Members are asked to champion the network by contributing to the professional support directory, actively engaging in meetings and sharing best practice with each other (including offering to meet outside of network meetings).
