What is the Criminal Justice System?

The criminal justice system is a name for the complex network of organisations that are responsible for dealing with crime. This includes law courts, lawyers, police, probation, prison, and the many charities that exist to help people affected by crime – victims, witnesses and the offenders themselves, as well as their families.
