About this event

As part of the 16 Days activities that UWS will be running, Dr Emma Bolger, lecturer and programme leader of the MSc Career Guidance and Development programme, will be presenting a workshop for career development practitioners on domestic abuse, career guidance and career decision-making

With 1-in-4 experiencing domestic abuse in their lifetime, the probability that a career development professional will encounter domestic abuse within their client group is highly likely. The impact on career decision making is profound and this must be incorporated in our understanding of career over a lifetime. There is a dearth of literature on the practical experiences of survivors of domestic abuse in relation to career guidance interventions.

Understanding how domestic abuse affects career decision making and how career development professionals can support individuals who have experienced or are experiencing domestic abuse

Attendees will:

• Develop understanding of how domestic abuse can affect career decision making

• Consider career barriers for women who are or have experienced domestic abuse

• Develop practical knowledge of best practice in referral processes

• Explore how career professionals working with clients experiencing domestic can manage vicarious trauma
