In our last mover round up for 2021, here’s news of RNIB’s next Fundraising Director, the European Fundraising Association’s new President, and other sector recruitment announcements.

Chris Jarrett announced as RNIB Director of Fundraising

The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) has announced the appointment of its new Director of Fundraising. Chris Jarrett starts the role on 04 January, and joins RNIB from Sense, where he held the role of Group Director of Engagement. He has over 20 years’ experience in fundraising leadership roles at a number of charities, including British Heart Foundation, The Prince’s Trust, Breast Cancer Now and Asthma UK. Prior to joining Sense, Jarrett led the fundraising department at Samaritans, followed by the corporate partnership department at NSPCC.

Matt Downie appointed CEO of Crisis

From 01 January, Matt Downie will take up the role of Chief Executive at Crisis. A panel of Crisis Trustees, led by the Chair of Trustees, Tristia Harrison, has appointed Downie following an open and extensive recruitment process, involving Crisis’ clients. He joined Crisis in 2014 as Director of Policy and External Affairs and has overseen a number of landmark policy successes, including the Homelessness Reduction Act (2017), and championed the development and sharing of best practice and the use of evidence in services delivery, both inside Crisis and across the sector. In 2019, he was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s birthday honours, for services to tackling homelessness. Prior to this, he worked at Action for Children, The National Autistic Society, and Shelter.


Chief Executive of the National Lottery Heritage Fund to step down

Ros Kerslake will step down as Chief Executive of the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the National Memorial Fund at the end of December after five and a half years. During this time her key achievements include ensuring the organisation was ready and able to support heritage with emergency funding throughout the COVID-19 pandemic with the £50m Heritage Emergency Fund, which saw 950 emergency grants awarded to a wide spectrum of heritage organisations including museums, community groups, historic buildings and nature reserves. Kerslake also led the Heritage Fund’s move to distribute several rounds of emergency funding to heritage on behalf of the Culture Recovery Fund for Heritage, working in partnership with Historic England, and to nature and environmental organisations on behalf of Defra.

Charlotte Rydh appointed European Fundraising Association President

Secretary General of Sweden’s Giva Sverige Charlotte Rydh has been appointed as European Fundraising Association President, following its 2021 Annual General Assembly in Dublin. Previously chair of EFA’s Certification Committee, Rydh takes over the role from Eduard Marček who has completed six years on the board, the last two of which have been as president. EFA board members are elected for three years and are then re-electable for a second term.


Mandi Hine joins Fundraising Everywhere as Community Manager

Mandi Hine is joining Fundraising Everywhere from Adoption Focus and will be its new Community Manager. A long-time member of Fundraising Everywhere, Hines will be taking up her new role in January and will enable the team to put even more time in to supporting and learning from their community and deliver even more value to members.


Theresa May & Baroness Hale among new Honorary Vice-Presidents for Clergy Support Trust

The Clergy Support Trust, which provides support for Anglican Clergy in the UK, have appointed five new Honorary Vice-Presidents with lived experience of the Anglican church including the Rt Hon Theresa May MP and Baroness Hale. May grew up in a vicarage, while Baroness Hale’s grandfather attended the Clergy Orphans School in Canterbury, her father was a lay reader, and her mother ran the local Mothers’ Union.


Harpinder Collacott to join SOS UK as Chair of the Board in 2022

SOS Children’s Villages UK has announced that Harpinder Collacott, the Chief Executive Officer of Development Initiatives, is to join its Board as Chair of Trustees in January 2022. Collacott has worked at Development Initiatives since 2012, and brings with her a wealth of governance experience, serving as a Board Trustee of WaterAid UK and Vice-Chair of BOND. Over the last 25 years, she has also held a variety of roles including the Political Advisor to the Prosecutor with the War Crimes Tribunal for Sierra Leone, Human Rights Programme Officer for the Oak Foundation, and South Asia Researcher for the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in the US.

Mike Theodoulou to join Shelter Cymru as Chair of Trustees

Shelter Cymru has chosen its next Chair of Trustees – Mike Theodoulou. Experienced in working with multi-disciplinary teams across multiple sectors, including leadership roles in a number of housing associations, government agencies, private sector and third sector organisations, Theodoulou  is National Chair of One Voice Wales, Chief Executive of the Centre for Building Social Action, and an independent Community Councillor and Mayor of Pembrey and Burry Port. He will be taking over from the outgoing Chair of Trustees Shayne Hembrow at Shelter Cymru’s AGM in March 2022. He also experienced homelessness himself as a teenager, with his family.

Claire Daniels joins Children’s Heart Surgery Fund board of trustees

Yorkshire charity, Children’s Heart Surgery Fund (CHSF) has appointed Claire Daniels, CEO of Trio Media as its newest trustee. Daniels is the most recent Board Member to join CHSF and will use her expertise to support with strategic digital marketing for the children’s charity. She and the Trio Media team will work alongside the internal marketing team to drive initiatives to increase donations and raise awareness of CHSF and congenital heart disease (CHD). As part of her role as trustee, Daniels will share joint responsibility for governing the charity whilst supporting the Executive to deliver on strategic plans for growth.
