Story

My Name is Harvey Mitchell-Divers and on July the 6th I will be flying to Tanzania to compete in what is my toughest challenge to date.

A Vertical Kilometre running race from 4870 mtrsupto the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro at Uhuru peak, this race is a gruelling 4.5km long and will take over an hour to complete. Once rested I will then race in a half marathon down the mountain.

This will be a Guinness World Record Attempt for the all the races organized in Kilimanjaro by Z-Adventures.

The V1000  race has been sanctioned by the ISF (International Skyrunning Federation) and the others by the International Trail Running Association, the race organiser is Ziyad from Z-Adventures who has a background in creating Guinness World Record attempts and amazing challenges all over the world.

Such is my professional attitude to this event – I have started altitude training at the UWS University in Hamilton, with Professor Chris Easton to get my body ready for this insane challenge. Accompanied by vigorous other training sessions in order to prepare for this challenge.

I am going to try my best to raise money, in memory of Dougie, and 100% of the money raised will go to The Brain Tumour Charity.

I joined East Kilbride Rolls Royce Football team, at the age of 12 and was coached by Dougie Craggs.  He brought me on significantly as a player and shared his knowledge of the game with me and I ended up being Captain of the team.

I was close to Dougie and we got on really well, his patter was always top tier and he always had time for me on and off the pitch

Dougie had a long battle with Brain Cancer, and we lost Dougie in the middle of 2020 and it was a devasting time for his family and all the football team.

He left behind a wife and a six year old daughter.

I have always vowed I wanted to do something in his memory and every painful step I take in trying to win that vertical kilometre race will be a subtle reminder of how hard Dougie had to fight and that the struggle I’ll be facing is nothing in comparison to what Dougie endured, and that will be what will get me to the top of that mountain
So this is for you Dougie -

Please help me reach my goal of 2000 pounds when you donate it goes straight to the charity -

Regarding where the money raised goes, the
charity focus on 3 areas – research, campaigning and support. So they  fund researchers to find out more out brain tumours to try and find a cure, campaign to policymakers, medical professionals and the public to make people more aware of this terrible disease to reduce things like diagnosis time which can make a huge difference and finally we help our community of people living with a brain tumour to ensure their quality of life is as good as it can be and provide support to them when they need it most.
