Award winning architecture and design practice with studios in Edinburgh and Kinross

About us

We are a dynamic and progressive architecture and design studio, founded in 2012 by Lynsay Bell and based in Kinross, Scotland. With a young, driven, highly capable and award winning team LBA are continually striving to push the boundaries of what is possible and always looking for new and inspiring ways to think and create the best outcome in every project. We always want to take architecture and design to new levels within the constraints of budget, statutory restrictions, and technical practicalities. A collaborative work environment, social interaction and a positive life/work balance underpin everything that we do. We pride ourselves on providing creative and forward thinking architecture, with considerable experience and expert knowledge of delivering design services — from feasibility and concept through to detail design and implementation. Working closely with our clients and consultants, we always achieve the best design solution. We have worked on a number of challenging projects and our capable team are always able to efficiently and effectively solve problems. We pride ourselves on the strong working relationships we have with all of our clients, and our practice has grown and developed based on repeat business, referrals and recommendations. Due to the scale of the practice you always have contact to director level staff and the personal attention that a medium sized firm can offer. The LBA team care about their clients and projects, creating a valued customer experience.

Working alongside Ferguson Planning, Narro and Land Use Consultants LLC, LBA - Architecture + Design have designed a development which positively contributes to the existing context, enhances the site’s biodiversity value and incorporates existing landscape features. The mix of house types provide future occupiers with open plan internal layouts suitable for flexible family living whilst the dwellings have been arranged on the site to create a characterful street scene and prioritise generous private external amenity spaces. We look forward to progressing the technical design stages in due course.

  • Two of our graduate architectural designers, Kate Pittendreigh and Caitlin Watson, had the pleasure of representing LBA - Architecture + Design on the FAKRO Factory Trip 2024 to Poland recently. They had the opportunity to network with industry professionals, visited the impressive Wieliczka Salt Mine, received an in-depth tour and demonstration at the Corporate Head Office & Production Plant in in Nowy Sącz, participated in an array of winter sports and sampled an abundance of Polish cuisine. A special thank you to Stewart MacKenzie and Charlie Kane, and the team in Poland for hosting them and leading such a well organised and memorable trip.

  • 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐞𝐫 – 𝐂𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐧 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐬𝐨𝐧 👋 Caitlin graduated from Robert Gordon University with a BSc in Architecture in 2020 and her Master of Architecture with Distinction in 2023. For Caitlin’s MArch thesis ‘A Renewal is Looming’, the project was completed over two years which looked at designing a recycled plastic textile mill in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis. The proposal focused on harvesting waste plastic from the ocean and recycling it into new material, helping to promote a circular economy and an innovative development for the weaving industry. During her Masters, Caitlin was co-president of the 57°10 student architecture society and awarded a place in the Scotland + Venice Professional Development Programme 2023. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫? I chose architecture as a career because I was interested in combining both my interests in art and science, and how I could influence how people live and interact with the built environment. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲? The architectural industry is intertwined with many trades from visual arts to engineering, which allows the opportunity to develop a vast array of knowledge and work with a variety of professionals.
