The Joined Up for Jobs strategy launched in 2001 led by Capital City Partnership (set up as a Social Inclusion Partnership in 1998) and the City of Edinburgh Council's Economic Development department.

The purpose was to develop a new approach to employment support across Edinburgh and make a significant, positive contribution to tackling exclusion and disadvantage and to harness the co-operation of employers to do this.

Principles – 3 pillars

  • Demand led
  • Client centred

THE NEW MURAL OUT THE FRONT OF THE WHALE BUILDING WAS MADE BY LOCAL YOUNG PEOPLE DURING SUMMER HOLIDAYS 2021

The beautiful thing about the Whale Arts Summer Programme is the open invitation to children and young people. There was such a mix of ages, interests and backgrounds but everyone that attended was there to have fun and make the most of their Summer. Hailey, the artist running the workshops made the project as child-led as possible, so it became full of many individual styles but on a large scale.⠀

🎨 The children and young people were invited to express their artistic vision of Wester Hailes and of Whale Arts. They were working from all angles on four large boards simultaneously, so there wasn't even a definitive up or down -- much like a map, it depends which way you are going.⠀

There was so much synergy amongst the group, as one child would see something they liked and would want to add to it, it would then trigger another idea. 🎨🖌⠀

The boards evolved and grew in meaning as the workshops progressed. We went in having little knowledge of how it would turn out. We absolutely love the outcome! ⠀
Michael Bowdidge, staff-member at WHALE, spent so long turning the boards and trying to find the perfect combination. The young people stood on the bank as we arranged the boards until they all agreed on the configuration.⠀

We are absolutely DELIGHTED at the responses for the ESES (CRD) COMMUNITY BENEFITS PORTAL alongside their amazing new website & social media pages on Facebook and  Twitter.

The Go Beyond Project works alongside Capital City Partnerships within the role of Community Wealth Building and this exciting new announcement really has the potential to make grassroots positive changed for communities.

Taken from the website, :

"The Edinburgh & South East Scotland City Region Deal (ESES CRD) is a £1.3 billion Scottish and UK Government investment to accelerate growth, create new economic opportunities and meaningful new jobs that will help to reduce inequalities. Visit About to find out more.

Funded by the Deal, this website allows community groups and good causes to submit requests for “Community Benefits”.

Community Benefits are the method by which local communities and good causes are encouraged to receive additional social value from the supply chain of businesses delivering publicly funded contracts and developments.

Local charities, community groups and good causes can find out more and submit specific community benefit requests by visiting our For Communities page.

Support is also available to both City Region Deal suppliers and all other businesses within the region to deliver community benefits and undertake positive actions within the communities they serve. Visit our For Business page to find out more."

Please don't hesitate to get in contact if you have any questions - I am here to support, too, in South-West Edinburgh!
