The Hill Street address is the main door of the Synagogue. The Heritage Centre and Archives Centre are accessed directly from the entrance on 29 Garnet Street – please come to this entrance when arriving for a pre-booked tour.

We are 20 minutes walk from Glasgow Central train station, 7 minutes walk from Charing Cross train station, 10 minutes walk from Cowcaddens underground and around 2 minutes walk from bus stops on Sauchiehall Street. For full information on train and bus services please see:

Parking

There is some on-street parking in the Garnethill area which requires a voucher that must be purchased locally. The permitted time is up to one hour. Other car parks are Charing Cross City Parking on Elmbank Street  and Cambridge Street Car Park

Accessibility

Tours and visits usually begin at the 29 Garnet Street entrance, which is near the top of a steep hill. This gives level access to the lower ground floor, which houses the Heritage Centre, Archives Centre, Succah, Study Centre and Function Room. There are toilets on this level, including a wheelchair accessible toilet.

Internal access between lower ground and ground floors is by stairs only, and there are 20 steps between the ground and lower ground levels. There is a stairlift available. The prayer hall is on the ground floor of the building.

The 129 Hill Street entrance gives access to the ground floor of the Synagogue and prayer hall. There are 4 steps to the front door from street level – a mobile ramp is available and can be requested on the booking form for Guided Tours. There is a toilet on the ground floor but it is not wheelchair accessible.

There is an audio loop in the synagogue prayer hall, and also in the function room on the lower ground floor.

Kosher food and places to eat

As a working Orthodox synagogue, it is not permitted to bring food and drink into the building. Bottled water is permitted and there is a lockable store for coats and bags available. If you need to buy something locally, there is a Tesco Metro supermarket at the bottom of Garnet Street and several cafes nearby. We recommend Singl-End round the corner at 263 Renfrew Street and Tinderbox at 24 Charing Cross Mansions on Sauchiehall Street.
